The Bridge is Back!
The Fredericton Marathon is taking some elements from our 40th anniversary in 2018, like the Westmorland Street Bridge, early-bird swag and a 3k run, and incorporating them into a two-day event in May 2019.
A 3k run and the Youth Fun Run will take place on Saturday, May 11th followed by our traditional Sunday event consisting of a 5k,10k, half marathon and full marathon events.
Due to last year’s flooding situation causing courses changes at the last minute, we decided to work with the City of Fredericton to bring the Westmorland Street Bridge back for May 2019.
The 41st annual GoToInsure.ca Fredericton Marathon Race Weekend kicks off Saturday, May 11 with a 3k run at 10:00 a.m. Designed to allow family members of all ages to participate together and experience a run-type event along Fredericton’s trail system, the 3k run starts behind Lady Beaverbrook Arena, heading north along the trail to connect with Bill Thorpe Walking Bridge trail for 1.5 km then turn around heading back along the same route to the start/finish line.
The ever-popular Youth Fun Run will consist of a 500metre and 1 kilometre races at 2 p.m. Registration occurs at Queen’s Square Park and the course will be on Aberdeen Street just past Church Street near the start of the trail system with an out-and-back course along the Lincoln trail system.
On Sunday, May 12th runners will take part in point-to-point races with a separate start and finish line at Queen’s Park Square. Participants running the 10k, half marathon or full marathon events will cross the Westmorland Street Bridge, heading to the streets of the North Side before entering onto the city’s trail system and returning to the South side via the Bill Thorpe Walking Bridge to the finish line at Queen’s Square Park.
